Roland A. "Rolly" Wonderlin
Norwalk
Roland A. "Rolly" Wonderlin, 46, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at his home in Norwalk. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2012 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines.
Rolly was born February 1, 1966 in Des Moines to Larry and Mary Ann (Mack) Wonderlin. He had worked for Central Iowa Heating and Cooling, Irwin's Bike Shop and Watt's Vault and Monument Company. Memberships include the National Rifle Association, Izaak Walton League and AA.
Rolly had a zest for living and loved spending time with his family. He was proficient at everything he did. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, flying and photography. He was especially interested in anything with wheels.
Survivors include his parents; sister, Cathie (Bruce) Brown; nieces, Kennedy and Mary Louise Brown, who Rolly adored; uncle, Ralph H. Wonderlin. Rolly was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roland A. and Catherine M. Wonderlin, Charles J. and Margaret E. Mack.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Iles Funeral Homes - Westover Chapel where a vigil service will begin at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Rolly's family.
[BIKEIOWA NOTE: I knew Rolly way back when he was working at Irwin's Bike Shop when it was next to Merle Hay Mall. This was the timeline that Kelly Forret was still working there. I saw Rolly most recently in 2010 when he entered a lowrider bicycle into the "Coolest Bike in Town" contest at Mullets. It was a dark blue super-low dyna model with 100+ spoke wheels and a massive machined aluminum front suspension. It was unique, and he won a prize for it. He was super proud of it. RIP my friend.]
