The Des Moines Cycle Club bicycle race team, sponsored by Des Moines Orthopaedic Surgeons and Mortgage Solutions, has announced donations of over $2,200 to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America, Iowa Chapter. The team promotes the annual 'Cross Out Crohns Disease' Cyclocross Series presented by Jacobson Companies, a national 3rd party logistics, 3rd party warehousing company. The races raise awareness and funds for the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America, Iowa Chapter. The Series has raised nearly $3,000 since 2001. Series promoter Marc Hollander, diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in 1999, said, "I would like to thank all of the participants and sponsors. The cyclocross racers and sponsors have helped the sport grow wildly throughout Iowa and help support a great cause." Pat Gantz, CCFA, Iowa Chapter President says, "CCFA, Iowa Chapter appreciates all the individuals involved in the Cyclocross races. Thank you for your time, your energy, and your generosity. You give us heart and hope in fighting these debilitating diseases." The team promoted five cyclocross races in Des Moines and Newton from October through December 2004 including the Iowa State Championship. The club was instrumental in creating the 'Iowa Cyclocross Championship Series' where eight series champions were recognized in December. Cyclocross races are held at city parks on one-mile circuits utilizing natural obstacles and man-made barriers requiring the cyclist to run the bicycle for portions of the race. The 2005 'Iowa Cyclocross Championship Series' begins on Saturday, October 1, 2005. Information will be available at The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America's mission is to cure and prevent Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis through research, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these digestive diseases through education and support. The Des Moines Cycle Club bicycle race team provides competitive cyclists of all ages and abilities a wealth of training and racing opportunities across Iowa.
